how much does a jazz publicist cost?

ours is $500 to $2,500 a month with a 3-month minimum, $1,500 to $7,500 for a release. of the 16 jazz PR firms in our directory, 1 print a figure: they quote on request.

do you work smooth jazz?

yes. jazz, smooth jazz and adult contemporary, along with R&B, world music, new age and Americana.

do jazz outlets still want CDs?

some do, and they say so. DownBeat's contact page gives a postal address for album reviews. Hearts of Space asks for one released CD with a one-sheet. Echoes prefers a download link and also accepts a CD. the table on this page links each outlet's own rules.

when should a jazz campaign start?

2 to 3 months before the release date. the first weeks go to the list and the release, and the outlets that publish a lead time ask for music two weeks to three months ahead.

can I just send my record to the magazines myself?

yes, and the outlets' own rules are linked on this page. the campaign is for the three months of pitching, follow-up and scheduling that come after the record is sent.
