do I need a publicist for a single?
for a single you need one announcement, not a three-month campaign. that means a press release, written properly and sent to the outlets that cover your genre, and a pitch to Spotify's editors that you send yourself for free. the release is $500 with us, or free with our template.
by Studio Raine, a music PR firm in New York. we sell some of what this guide describes, and our own prices are marked as ours.

what a single's announcement is.
- one press release: the headline, the story in two sentences, a quote, the facts, a contact.
- a list of the outlets that cover your genre and take singles.
- one send, and one follow-up to each outlet.
- a private link to hear it, and photos and artwork to download.
the template has all eight parts of the release, numbered and explained, as a page and as a download.
the Spotify pitch is yours to send, and it is free.
Spotify takes pitches for unreleased songs through Spotify for Artists, asks for them at least 7 days before release (Spotify) and says pitching is free (Spotify). nobody needs to be paid for that step.

when a single does deserve a campaign.
when it carries a bigger story: the first single from an album that is finished and dated, a tour announced with it, a collaboration that is itself news. then the single is week one of a three-month campaign, not a one-off.
